An indictment, information, or complaint is merely an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Pawtucket woman has been charged in Providence County Superior Court with second-degree child abuse and assaulting police officers following her arrest on June 26, 2023 by Pawtucket Police.

On March 19, 2024, the Office of the Attorney General charged Yaritza Acevedo (age 35), by way of criminal information, with one count of second-degree child abuse, two counts of simple assault, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of disorderly conduct.

As alleged in the criminal information, on June 26, 2023, Pawtucket Police responded to a report of child abuse. When officers arrived on scene, they determined there was probable cause to arrest the defendant. When they attempted to do so, the defendant resisted arrest and kicked the officers before they placed her in a police cruiser.

The defendant is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on April 17, 2024 in Providence County Superior Court.
