Lead Advocate Attorney General Neronha is committed to fighting childhood lead poisoning in Rhode Island by holding accountable landlords that allow lead paint-related hazards to thrive in low-income rental properties. Through our Office’s Lead Advocate, we work closely with Rhode Island Department of Health to bring the most difficult lead poisoning cases into compliance with the Lead Poisoning Prevention Act (RIGL 23-24.6). RIDOH refers owners of properties with children poisoned from lead exposure to this Office 30 days after the Department has issued a Second Notice of Violation. The Attorney General has the power to investigate any alleged failures to comply with the lead hazard reduction, initiate a civil or criminal case of action, and/or impose penalties and fines.
