Precious Metals

Here's helpful information for obtaining a precious metals or tools/electronics license:

  • You will need to bring the application, signed and notarized.
  • For all businesses with branch stores, there is now a $50.00 fee per branch.
  • If you already have precious metals license, there is no fee for a tools and electronics license.
  • You will also need a Letter of Good Standing from the R.I. Division of Taxation. The fee is $50.00. Individual businesses do not need a letter of good standing unless you have an account with the R.I. Division of Taxation. Please contact the R.I. Division of Taxation at (401) 474-8829 with questions.
  • If you are a Corporation or LLC, a certified copy of your latest annual report or a certified copy of the articles of incorporation for newly incorporated or LLC businesses from the Secretary of State’s Office is required. The fee is $10.15. Please contact the Secretary of State’s Office at (401) 222-3040 ext. 1255 with questions.
  • A national background check (and fingerprinting) is required for a Precious Metals and/or Tools and Electronics licenses for all employees that buy and for corporate officers.

Regulated Metals License

  • You will need to bring the application, signed and notarized.
  • For all new and renewal Regulated Metals license applications, a $70.00 license fee is required via check or money order.
  • You will also need a Letter of Good Standing from the R.I. Division of Taxation. The fee is $50.00. Individual businesses do not need a letter of good standing unless you have an account with the R.I. Division of Taxation. Please contact the R.I.
