Attorney General Neronha, Day One to host statewide conference on protecting youth from online exploitation

Published on Wednesday, October 22, 2025

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha and the Rhode Island Children’s Network, a program of Day One, today announced a joint statewide multidisciplinary conference titled Unfettered Access which will focus on the growing challenges of keeping children safe in the digital age. The event will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Harbor Lights in Warwick.

Unfettered Access will bring together leading experts in the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) to equip Rhode Island’s multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) with the latest insights, tools, and strategies to identify, prevent, and respond and support children exposed to digital and sexual exploitation. These multi-disciplinary teams consist of prosecutors, law-enforcement, advocacy centers, hospitals, and the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).

“To truly understand how to protect our kids from exploitation, we must better understand today’s ever-changing digital landscape, which poses new and more complex threats to their safety and well-being,” said Attorney General Neronha. “Our strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies and organizations like Day One enable us to hold responsible those who perpetrate crimes against children – and learning opportunities like this one allow for further education and information about how a multidisciplinary approach can help prevent harm. We all have a role in keeping our kids safe, and I am proud to partner with Day One on this event.”

For more than 50 years, Day One has been a statewide leader in responding to matters of sexual assault. This includes a longstanding partnership with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office with a shared goal of healing and the prosecution of cases involving all forms of sexual victimization.

“Day One is honored to partner with Attorney General Neronha on this important topic,” said Michelle Loranger, Executive Director of Day One. “Education and staying current with evolving trends regarding all forms of children’s access to online content are critically important to our partners in law enforcement, child welfare, medical services and mental health treatment.  We are proud to collaborate with the Attorney General on this conference on our mutual goals for children’s wellness.”
