Our Amicus Briefs
We have filed amicus briefs in several cases to support plaintiffs that are pushing back on the Administration’s unlawful actions.
Talbot v. Trump
The President signed an executive order attempting to ban transgender people from serving in the military. Along with 19 other attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiffs' case to block this order. We argue that the President action violates the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution; would also weaken our military; harm state emergency and disaster preparedness; deprive the military of experienced and qualified soldiers; and engage in discrimination in violation of state laws.
Baltimore v. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
The President is attempting to defund and disband the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency that advocates for consumers and supervises large banks and corporations. Along with 22 other attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case for blocking the President's action. We argue that disbanding the CFPB will cause states irreparable harm; that state-chartered banks will be unfairly disadvantaged if CFPB can no longer supervise very large banks; and that this will increase the burden on states to protect consumers.
Perkins Coie v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the President's Executive Order which targets Perkins Coie LLP for representing clients that the President personally does not like violates the First Amendment, Supreme Court precedent, and the basic principles underlying our justice system.
Pacito v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the "Refugee Ban" Executive Order and the funding suspension for refugee resettlement agencies that followed are unlawful and will harm states and refugee communities in our states.
National Treasury Employees Union v. Vought
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that disbanding the CFPB will cause states irreparable harm; that state-chartered banks will be unfairly disadvantaged if CFPB can no longer supervise very large banks; and that this will increase the burden on states to protect consumers.

PFLAG. Inc. v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the two executive orders at issue in this case target transgender people in an unlawful and discriminatory manner, causing chaos and harm to families across the country and interrupting the delivery of crucial medical care across the health care system.
Shilling v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the President's Executive Order banning transgender people from serving in the military violates the Constitution and weakens the nation's military, including the National Guards operated by all Amici States.

Wilcox v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the President's unlawful removal of the plaintiff from the National Labor Relations Board immediately prevents the Board from performing several of its most important functions and violates law and customs that are intended to preserve the Board's long-term independence and legitimacy.
National TPS Alliance v. Noem
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the prematurely terminated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan citizens who live peacefully and productively throughout the United States will cause immeasurable and irreparable harm to our communities.

Slaughter v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the President's purported firing without cause of both Federal Trade Commission (FTC) commissioners from the opposing political party violated the Federal Trade Commission Act and binding Supreme Court precedent, destroyed the agency's structure, and harms its critical mission as a bipartisan antitrust and consumer protection authority.
Massachusetts Fair Housing Center v. Department of Housing and Urban Development
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that allowing the Administration to cancel funding for fair housing organizations would cause immediate harm to the states, their communities, and their residents by impeding access to fair, safe, and affordable housing.
American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the dismantling of federal agencies and mass federal employee layoffs exceed the power of the Executive under separation of powers principles and disrupt the ability of states to protect and serve the public.

National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that two executive orders that target diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programs by terminating their grants and ending programs are unconstitutionally vague and abridge the freedom of speech. We argue that diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programs play an essential role in enforcing longstanding civil rights laws.
National Job Corps Association v. US Department of Labor
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that the Department of Labor's unlawful termination of the Jobs Corps will cause irreparable harm to the states and their residents by closing almost one hundred Job Corps centers across the fifty states and terminating in-progress training and benefits programs in which tens of thousands of young Americans are currently enrolled.
National Public Radio Inc., et al, v. Trump and Public Broadcasting Service, et al., v. Trump
Along with a coalition of attorneys general, we filed an amicus brief to support the plaintiff's case. We argue that public broadcast stations serve a critical role in delivering information to the public and the proposed cuts would gravely harm Americans. The coalition says the funding cuts would create risks to public safety and erode trust by threatening coverage of local news, creating disruptions to the distribution of emergency notifications, reducing critical educational services, and limiting public media’s unique reach to rural and tribal audiences.
Cabrera v.
