Attorney General Neronha issues statement on passing of Judge Michael Higgins

“I met Judge Michael Higgins when I was a brand-new state district court prosecutor in 1996, in Providence County district court. I learned as much from him there and later when we both assigned to Washington County as I have from any other judge. I spent hundreds of hours in his chambers and in his courtroom, and watched as he dispensed justice with wisdom and grace. He moved his busy courtroom calendars quickly and efficiently, but always with compassion for those who came before him. And he knew how to subtly teach a young lawyer lessons that were career-changing and long-lasting. We often talked about non-legal matters after the day’s business was done, when he would just wander down to our office in the Washington County courthouse. He loved the law, sports, and his family most of all. I will miss him very much, and will keep a thought for all his family.”
