Attorney General Neronha reaffirms support for LGBTQ+ community following Supreme Court Decision

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha today issued the following statement in response to a United States Supreme Court Decision upholding a Tennessee law that bans medical treatment for transgender youth.
“Today, we hosted our Office’s annual Pride flag raising ceremony in support of the LGBTQ+ community here in Rhode Island. There is an unfortunate irony in celebrating and honoring a community one minute, and learning of yet another terrible setback in that community’s rights the next.
“I want to speak directly to the LGBTQ+ community in this moment and reiterate that I will always fight for your right to live as your true, authentic selves. While today’s Supreme Court decision represents a significant setback to LGBTQ+ rights, this decision has no impact on gender affirming care in Rhode Island. I firmly believe that decisions about how, when, and whether minors should access gender affirming care are decisions that belong to families and their providers.
“My Office, along with Democratic attorneys general across the country, will continue to fight against the Trump Administration’s ruthless attempts to demonize LGBTQ+ Americans, and anyone else they deem as ‘other,’ for political gain. We are fighting on behalf of you, and all Americans, in the courts, and we are winning because we are on the right side of the law.
“I have your back, and I will never stop fighting on your behalf.”
