Attorney General Neronha statement on U.S. Supreme Court decision to block census citizenship question

Published on Friday, June 28, 2019

"Today's decision was complicated but good for democracy and good for Rhode Island. A citizenship question was being added to the census in an effort to suppress participation, with potentially devastating consequences for Rhode Islanders. As of today, the census will not contain a citizenship question. We will continue to vigilantly monitor the process as it goes forward, and will take whatever legal action is necessary to continue to protect Rhode Island's interests. Our Office will continue to work with our partners in government and in law enforcement to ensure that everyone will be counted."
