Attorney General Neronha welcomes new class of Honors Fellows, record number of applicants for next year’s Honors Program
Published on Thursday, October 26, 2023
Attorney General Peter F. Neronha today announced that the Office has welcomed four recent law school graduates as part of its Honors Program, while celebrating a record number of applicants from law schools across the country seeking to join next year’s class of Honors Fellows.
With the Honors Program application period for the 2024 class closing earlier this month, the Office now begins its review of a record number of applications – more than 90 – vying for a limited number of positions within the Office. Applicants included law students from Boston College Law School, Columbia Law School, Georgetown University Law Center, Harvard Law School, New York University School of Law, Boston University School of Law, and Yale Law School. In all, the program attracted applicants from 37 law schools all across the country.
The Honors Program offers recent law school graduates and newly admitted to the bar lawyers the opportunity to work in the Office of the Attorney General during a one-year term in which they will gain valuable experience while serving the people of Rhode Island. The Honors Fellows have an opportunity to join the Office as a permanent employee at the completion of their fellowship.
“Our Office continues to attract talented individuals with a deep commitment to public service and justice,” said Attorney General Neronha. “I am excited to welcome this year’s Honors class into our Office, where they will make a difference in the lives of Rhode Islanders through the critical work of our Office. Moreover, a record 94 prospective attorneys applied for next year’s cohort, which demonstrates that the work of the Office is compelling and meaningful to new generations of public servants, and gives me high hope for Rhode Island’s future.”
Attorneys will be selected for the Honors Program over the coming months based on their commitment to public service, academic achievement, leadership qualities and experience, and relevant legal or policy experience. Honors Program attorneys will serve in the Office’s Criminal Division and Civil Division. The 2024 Attorney Honors Program begins in September 2024.
