On August 4, 2023, the Newport County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Jacob Morrill with one count of first-degree murder, one count of driving a vehicle without the consent of the owner/lessee, and one count of fraudulent use of a credit card totaling more than $100.

The alleged acts occurred in the town of Portsmouth on or about May 22, 2023. The Portsmouth Police Department conducted the investigation.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on August 24, 2023, in Newport County Superior Court.
