Jury convicts Richmond man of sexual assault and patient abuse

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced today that a Richmond man has been found guilty in Washington County Superior Court of committing multiple counts of sexual assault and patient abuse against two male victims in 2020 and 2023.
On May 27, 2026, following the conclusion of a five-day trial before Superior Court Justice Kristin E. Rodgers, a jury found Scott Leski (age 57) guilty of two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, and four counts of patient abuse.
“When our loved ones need medical treatment, we entrust the staff members at any given facility with their wellbeing, the vast majority of which deliver extraordinary care,” said Attorney General Neronha. “That said, and unfortunately, this defendant took advantage of his patients, neither of whom had the ability defend themselves. His crimes caused trauma that will stay with these patients and their families for the rest of their lives. I hope this guilty verdict helps the victims and their families feel a sense of justice, and reminds other victims that they are not alone. I am grateful to the North Kingstown Police Department for their partnership on this case and many others.”
During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant sexually assaulted two elderly patients, both residents at the Bayview Rehabilitation Center at Scalabrini in North Kingstown, one in 2020 and one and another in 2023.
In July 2020, the defendant was an agency registered nurse working third shift at Bayview Rehabilitation Center at Scalabrini. On a night in July 2020, the defendant sexually assaulted a long-term care patient with significantly limited mobility in the patient’s room during an overnight shift. The patient recounted the assault to his daughter two weeks later, and his daughter contacted North Kingstown Police Department.
In December 2023, the defendant worked as an agency registered nurse at Bayview Rehabilitation Center at Scalabrini. In the early morning hours of December 16, 2023, the defendant sexually assaulted a patient with significantly limited mobility in the patient’s room during an overnight shift. The next morning, the patient recounted the assault to the first shift nurse, who contacted the North Kingstown Police Department.
“Sexual assault cases are some of the most difficult cases we investigate,” said North Kingstown Police Chief John Urban, Jr. “While there is no justice that can undo the pain caused to these victims, I commend their bravery throughout this process and thank our partners at the Attorney General’s Office for their investigation and prosecution of this case.”
Special Assistant Attorneys General Steven J. DeLuca and KC Brody of the Office of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control and Patient Abuse Unit and Detectives Ashley Depolito and Officer Travis Maiato of the North Kingstown Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
