North Kingstown man sentenced to 17 years in state prison for child molestation

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced today that a North Kingstown man has been sentenced in Washington County Superior Court to serve 17 years at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for sexually assaulting a victim under the age of 14 between 2019 and 2020.

On January 15, 2025, at a hearing before Superior Court Justice Melanie Wilk Thunberg, Daniel Peckham (age 36) pleaded nolo contendere to two counts of first-degree child molestation. Judge Thunberg sentenced the defendant to 40 years with 17 years to serve and 40 years of probation. Additionally, Judge Thunberg issued a no contact order between the defendant and the victim and ordered the defendant register as a sex offender, attend sex offender counseling, and be subject to community supervision.

“Far too often, victims of sexual assault suffer in silence, and perpetrators get away with their terrible crimes because they go unreported,” said Attorney General Neronha. “Thankfully, this victim demonstrated remarkable bravery in coming forward. When victims feel safe to come forward, we are able to hold accountable perpetrators of sexual violence and keep our communities safer. I want to thank the North Kingstown Police Department for their partnership on this difficult case.”

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that between 2019 and 2020, the defendant assaulted a victim under the age of 14, who was known to him, multiple times in the town of North Kingstown.

“I am grateful for the tireless work of the North Kingstown Police Department and our partnership with Attorney General’s Office,” said North Kingstown Police Chief John Urban Jr. “I commend the victim for coming forward, an act of bravery that made our community safer.”

Assistant Attorneys General Mark Trovato and Special Assistant Attorney General Alyssa Mason of the Office of the Attorney General and Detective Greg Miga of the North Kingstown Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
