An indictment, information, or complaint is merely an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Providence man has been charged in Providence County Superior Court with the possession and distribution child pornography after his arrest in March 2023 by the Rhode Island State Police.
On June 27, 2023, the Office of the Attorney General charged Erick Gonzalez Galvez (age 20), by way of criminal information, with one count of possession of child pornography, one count of distribution of child pornography, and one count of possession of child erotica.
As alleged in the criminal information, members of the Rhode Island State Police and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The report contained information about a Twitter account that contained multiple uploaded files containing child pornography and child erotica. After receiving basic user identification information from Twitter, investigators submitted legal inquiries to T-Mobile and Google to obtain additional information that helped them identify the defendant.
As further alleged, investigators executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence on March 29, 2023, at which time the defendant allegedly admitted to possessing and disseminating the images on Twitter. Investigators then took the defendant into custody.
The defendant is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on November 8, 2023, in Providence County Superior Court.
