Providence man charged with trafficking fentanyl, cocaine, amphetamine and oxycodone

An indictment, information, or complaint is merely an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. 

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Providence man has been charged in Providence County Superior Court with multiple drug trafficking offenses following his arrest by the Rhode Island State Police in December 2022.

On April 4, 2023, the Office of the Attorney General charged Geraldo Valenzuela (age 30), by way of criminal information, with one count of possession with intent to deliver one ounce to one kilogram of fentanyl; one count of possession with intent to deliver one ounce to one kilogram of cocaine; one count of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl; one count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine; one count of possession of 10 grams or less of amphetamine; and one count of possession of 10 grams or less of oxycodone.

As alleged in the criminal information, at approximately 2:45 a.m. on December 3, 2022, Rhode Island State Police troopers observed a car driving erratically along Route 95 in Pawtucket. As alleged in the criminal information, troopers pulled over the vehicle and began to question the driver and the defendant, who was a passenger. Following a series of inconsistent responses to the troopers’ questions, the troopers instructed the defendant to exit the vehicle.

It is further alleged in the criminal information that during a search of the defendant, troopers found a bag containing smaller bags of suspected fentanyl, cocaine, and an assortment of pills. Later testing by the Rhode Island Department of Health Forensic Chemistry Lab confirmed the presence of fentanyl, cocaine, amphetamine, and oxycodone.

The defendant is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on July 21, 2023, in Providence County Superior Court.
