Providence man sentenced to 25 years in state prison for child molestation Published on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced today that a Providence man has been sentenced in Providence Superior Court to serve 25 years in at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for sexually assaulting a female victim under the age of 14 between 2013 and 2018. On January 9, 2025, Superior Court Justice Maureen B. Keough sentenced Kevin Frias (age 42) to 50 years with 25 years to serve and 50 years of probation. Additionally, Judge Keough ordered the defendant register as a sex offender, attend sex offender counseling, and be subject to community supervision as well as lifetime GPS monitoring. On October 7, 2024, a jury found the defendant guilty of two counts of first-degree child molestation and three counts of second-degree child molestation. “This defendant received a significant sentence for his crimes because this victim came forward and told her story, exhibiting extraordinary bravery in the process,” said Attorney General Neronha. “Fostering a supportive environment for victims is paramount to keeping our community safe from perpetrators of sexual violence. My thanks to the Providence Police Department for their partnership on this difficult case.” During the October trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that between 2013 and 2018, the defendant assaulted a female victim under the age of 14, who was known to him, multiple times at his home in Providence. “I am grateful for the hard work of the Providence Police Department and our partnership with Attorney General’s Office, which allowed us to bring this defendant to justice,” said Providence Police Colonel Oscar L. Perez. “I commend the victim for her courage in this case, resulting in a sentence that leaves our community safer.” Assistant Attorneys General Shannon Signore and Special Assistant Attorney General Megan Andrews of the Office of the Attorney General and Detective Theodore Michaels (retired) and Detective Terrence Green (retired) of the Providence Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case. ###
