Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced today that a Westerly man has been sentenced in Washington County Superior Court to serve 20 years in at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for child molestation and the sexual assault of a female victim between 2011 and 2021.
On January 24, 2025, before Superior Court Justice Melanie Wilk Thunberg, the Court sentenced Alexander Kores (age 39) to 45 years with 20 years to serve at the ACI and 45 years of probation. Additionally, Judge Thunberg issued a no contact order between the defendant and the victim and ordered the defendant register as a sex offender, attend sex offender counseling, and be subject to community supervision.
On January 24, 2025, the defendant pleaded nolo contendere to three counts of first-degree child molestation, one count of first-degree sexual assault, and one count of possession of a large capacity magazine.
“Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, but unfortunately that’s not always the case,” said Attorney General Neronha. “This victim showed an enormous amount of bravery in coming forward and sharing her story after enduring years of unimaginable trauma. My hope is that each time we hold accountable a perpetrator of sexual violence, other victims may feel empowered to come forward and seek justice. I’m grateful to the Rhode Island State Police for their partnership on this difficult case.”
Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that between 2011 and 2021, the defendant assaulted a female victim, who was known to him, multiple times at locations in the towns of Richmond and Charlestown.
Assistant Attorney General Mark Trovato and Special Assistant Attorney General Caitlin Isherwood of the Office of the Attorney General and Detectives Thomas Bruso and Brendan Morgan of the Rhode Island State Police led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
