Civil Division

Our Public Protection Bureau is on the front lines advocating for a cleaner environment, safe and affordable healthcare, fundamental civil rights for communities, and protection for Rhode Island workers and consumers.

On a larger scale, our Office is regularly a part of multistate litigation efforts that result in hundreds of thousands of dollars returned to Rhode Islanders and the state.

Our Government Litigation attorneys defend state agencies and the people who work for them when lawsuits are filed against them.  This important work requires trial attorneys in the Civil Division to handle both smaller cases and major litigation to protect Rhode Island's financial and other resources as well as our laws and our State Constitution.

Government Litigation work also includes protecting transparency in government through the Open Government unit, advising State government and protecting assets that have been donated to charities and non-profits with the Attorney General’s Charitable Trust authority.
